MAMBILIMA MEDICAL MISSION TRIP - 26 APRIL 2012 – 29 APRIL 2012

REPORT BY NELLIE CHITAMBO

The airplane is under maintenance so this trip was made using our land vehicle. It started as a normal trip when we left Ndola at 09.20hrs on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, the vehicle broke down partway to our destination. We had to rebuild the diesel pump and filter which delayed our arrival at the mission hospital significantly. We finally arrived in the early morning hours on Friday. We found one of the housekeepers waiting for us and found a meal that was meant for supper still on the table. We had it as an early breakfast and retired to bed for some much needed rest.

After resting, the medical team was allocated rooms to operate from and the team got their bags to the rooms to begin their work. There were so many patients that the Optician missed lunch in order to clear the long line of patients.

Medical side was also busy with the group having to take turns to have their lunch. On Saturday after finishing the clinic, the following numbers were treated:

-Medical 251 patients

-Optical 120 patients

15 patients booked for surgery

-Dental 44 patients

TOTAL 415 patients in all

===

After Lunch, the team gave out clothes to the children and then visited the widow of Mr Tentani, the hospital administrator who had died recently. We left Mambilima at 05.00hrs on Sunday morning and arrived in Ndola at 17.15 hrs.

The trip was a blessed one despite having a break down we continued with our journey and served the community.It is a calling beyond our understanding.

    Medical Supplies Delivered to Clinics in South Africa

Instead of heading to a beach or Disney park, instead of hoofing it through an American historical sight or partaking of the grandeur of one of America’s great national parks, they chose a trip to South Africa. And when they left for their trip in late July, they took with them an extra 5 duffel bags. Each bag weighed 50 lbs. and was filled with medical supplies. The Fahertys delivered the…
